Mariah Carey was born March 27, 1970, in Long Island, New York to Alfred Roy Carey, an aeronautical engineer from Venezuela, and Patricia Carey, a voice coach and opera singer. Mariah carey has two older siblings: a brother, Morgan, and a sister, Alison. Carey is known as one of the first "pop divas" of 1990, having sold over eighty million albums worldwide. Mariah carey voice spans over five octaves and writes most of his music.

Carey's parents divorced when she was three. Mariah cary stunned his mother by imitating her singing two years of age, and was given singing lessons from four years. After graduating in 1987 at Harborfields High School Greenlawn, New York, Carey moved to Manhattan, where he worked as a girl waitress coat check, and studied cosmetology while writing songs and actively pursuing a music career at night.

When he was eighteen, Carey and his girlfriend, the singer Brenda K. Starr went to a party hosted by CBS Records. Starr convinced Carey to bring one of his demos. He intended to give the tape to Columbia Jerry Greenberg, but Tommy Mottola, the president of Columbia Records (later Sony), has intercepted before she could hand to Greenberg. After listening to the tape on the way home from the party, signed Carey and Mottola set to work immediately on his first album, Mariah Carey (1990), which included four No. 1 singles: "Vision of Love," "Love Takes Time" , "Some Day" and "I Do not Want to Cry." emotions second album was released in 1992, the title track became his fifth No. 1 single, and hits including "Can not Let Go" and "Make it Happen".
